Monteverde Cloud Forest in Costa Rica

Today we walked through the cloud forest on bridges suspended in the canopy. See http://www.monteverdeinfo.com/sky-walk.htm. We've talked to folks who've done the zip lines through the canopy, but this is a much better way of really seeing things. You go too fast on the zip lines. It was difficult to photograph the dark, misty forest with the incredible variety of epiphytes. In many cases it was difficult to pick out the host tree from all the large plants growing on it.

There were quite a few birds, though they were hard to see; this is a “yellowish flycatcher”.In the afternoon we visited a center specializing in the study of bats and saw lots of them in an enclosure. Then we had an interesting lecture by one of the Quakers who founded the community of Monteverde. The day ended with another beautiful sunset.
