Visit to Santanoni

Six of us went on a guided nature walk at Santanoni today, then had a tour of the Gatehouse.  The horse-drawn wagon headed out before we did.

We just walked a mile up the road to the farm with a very good naturalist.  Then back to the Gatehouse for the tour.  The Gatehouse wasn't much to look at but the talk by an AARCH employee gave us the history of the land and its occupants.  There was a lot of great lichen growing on a falling-down structure near the entrance.

New Woodshed Roof

Our big project for the season is to replace the roof on our woodshed.  We had not used a drip edge when we built it originally so the plywood on the back side where it is more moist had started rotting.  Due to the continued smoke from the Canadian wildfires we have to work with masks on which makes the job even hotter.

To Camp for the Season

We drove to camp today.  Due to construction in Syracuse, friends recommended we take a different route.  So we tried the one suggested by friends who live in Keene Valley over the summer.  We took 276 east to Rt 1, to 295 into to NJ, then Bear Tavern Rd and Harbourton-Rocktown Rd to Rt 31, stopping for a break at the QuickChek at the corner.  Then 31 to 202 to 287 to 87 north.  We got off 87 at Warrensburg the way we used to and stopped at Oscars before heading to camp.  That is a much more scenic route into the Adirondacks than via Cranberry Lake.
