A Perfect Adirondack Day

We had a wonderful paddle today.  Even though it is Sunday, the crowds are still thin and there were no other boats for most of the trip.  The air was very still so we were worried about bugs, but we didn't encounter many.  And the still water was beautiful.

Since we were on our own, we decided to do a variation of the Floodwood/Rollins loop that we have done in the past that eliminates the carries, but adds a nice walk at the end.  We parked the car and launched our boats at the Rollins Pond ramp, paddled Rollins, Floodwood, down Fish Creek, and through Square Pond to an empty campsite, for a total of 7.8 miles.  We left the boats there and walked 1.4 miles back to the car then drove back to pick up the boats.  It feels good to get a nice leg stretch after being in the boat that long.
We saw quite a few loons
including one on a nest in Fish Creek.
I of course looked at all the plants around.   I just love sundews on mossy logs.
And this big jack-in-the-pulpit was growing along side the road as we walked to pick up the car.
