Wildlife 2

An addendum to the last post.  The seed level in our feeder, which is hanging by ropes from two trees, is hard to see in some light.  It turns out that someone emptied about 1/4 of the seed from it.  It certainly is not birds, because I keep an eye on it during the day and have seen very few birds.  That raccoon must be the culprit.  And her antics needed to get to the feeder must be impressive.  The seed level was down further this morning.  Wish I had a trail cam to catch her in the act.  We will watch it closely this evening.

Wildlife

This raccoon appeared below our bird feeder today.  She couldn't find much, because the birds haven't found the feeder yet so haven't been dropping seeds, except for a lone chickadee that comes occasionally.  Clearly she is a female nursing cubs.  Unfortunately I think she went up into the dying hemlock tree that we have contracted to be removed.  I sure hope her nest isn't up there.

Strange Adirondack Weather

There were a couple of hot spells here before we arrived and the plants seem to have responded.  This is a fuzzy photo of a very early lady slipper orchid in our woods.  The fuzziness is because it is extremely windy.  We are not used to their blooming before the first weekend of June.

At Camp

An Update

We finally head for camp tomorrow.  We had extensive re-landscaping done in NJ and stayed longer into May than usual to water it well before the irrigation kicks on.  I haven't been able to do much so haven't been posting.  I had shingles back in February and have been suffering fairly severe nerve pain ever since.  I haven't been quilting and will not be able to paddle.  So posts will probably be infrequent.

It's Tulip Time

We went to Holland Ridge again to pick tulips.  We had problems getting there the same as last time, this time encountering two closed roads.  We went first thing this morning and there were very few people.  By the time we left they were pouring in.

Night Forms Exhibit at Grounds for Sculpture

We went to Grounds for Sculpture last evening to see the Night Forms: Dreamloop light show by the Klip Collective.  It was fantastic.  The park still has lots of Seward Johnson's huge sculptures which are always fun to see.

And the light show was fantastic.  These still photos don't really do it justice.

Quilt 75

I saw a photo of something like this a while back and wanted to try it.  I created my own paper piecing pattern and it worked well.  The quilt is about 33" x 33".   It is not quilted yet.  I want to use thread that matches the background and don't have any.  And I am staying away from stores this month due to the Omicron surge.  So the quilting will have to wait.

Wordle is now Edwordle

I just saw an article in today's New York Times about a "new" word game called Wordle.  The creator, Josh Wardle, clearly is unaware of the marvelous word play that used to be called that.  I frantically searched online and found the old version, which can now be found at http://www.edwordle.net/create.html. I haven't played with it for a long time, but I am so glad it still exists.  Here is "America the Beautiful."
