Fog on the Flow

It is not even September yet, but the nights are getting cool, meaning neat fog on The Flow in the morning.
The gentians are blooming, but we have lost so much shoreline the last couple of winters that they are falling into the water.  At this rate it won't be long before they are gone completely.  Sigh.

Paddling Rainbow Lake

Today a group of us paddled 8.5 miles on and around Rainbow Lake.  Another beautiful day.

Paddling the Six Carries Route

Today's group paddle was in the St Regis Canoe Area where we did 6 of the 7 carries and paddled the following ponds and lakes: Little Clear, St Regis, Green, Little Long, Bear, Bog, Upper St Regis, Spitfire, Lower St Regis.  It was a beautiful day and the winds weren't too bad.
And of course we did the requisite picnic at a campsite along the way.

An Evening of Mozart

We are in New Jersey for a few days and spent last evening singing Mozart's "Requiem" at the MCC summer sing.  It was wonderful to sing again.  While we are here, we are doing some "house stuff".  We went to our lot and discovered we have footers, which is something.  We spent a couple hours at the neat Jamesburg Hardware looking at Hunter Douglas shades for the house.  Then we drove up to Menlo Park Mall for hopefully the last meeting with the designer.  Today we spend with family, then tomorrow a trip to Ethan Allen to do the final fabric choosing for furniture for the living room.  We'll drive back to camp Sunday in time for the ADK picnic.

Paddling Little Tupper

This week's Monday paddle was the 13 mile round-trip down Little Tupper Lake into Rock Pond.  This is the neat island marking the entrance to the creek.
The water is so high that beaver dams weren't much of a problem.  We did have to pull over one in the creek on the way to Rock Pond, but it was nothing like the first few times we were there when the dams were a couple of feet high and we never found the portage.  The pond was bigger than we remembered and was a nice destination.
Paddling back down the creek this great blue heron accompanied us part of the way.

PA Genealogy and Niagara Falls

That may seem like a strange combination, but we stopped at Niagara Falls after spending several days in Greensburg, PA seeing relatives and doing genealogy research.

We stayed at the Marriott overlooking Horseshoe Falls, so we had this great view of the falls from the room.
We arrived later than expected - it took us 2 hours to cross the bridge into Canada.  So we walked down to see the falls at night.  Then yesterday morning we took the Maid of the Mist boatride and got some great views and got soaking wet as advertised.
This shows our hotel on the right.
Horseshoe Falls from the boat.
And American Falls.
