This morning we left Killarney and headed for Blarney
Castle, the home of the Blarney Stone. This is the third castle to have been erected
on this site, built in 1446.
Many folks stood in line to climb up to the top to kiss the
stone. I was more interested in exploring
the grounds. I particularly like the way plants try to take over all the
old structures.
This colorful outbuilding is an example of the profusion of
plants growing in the temperate climate.
Note the orange flowers to the left in the photo are bird-of-paradise,
which I’ve always thought of as a tropical plant.
I enjoyed walking along the river.
After visiting Blarney, we drove to the Cobh Heritage Center
where we saw exhibits about the Titanic which took on passengers there, the
Lusitania, and the coffin ships that left from there during the famine. We gave another informal concert there, then
we drove to the River Court Hotel in Kilkenny where we will spend the next two
nights.
